Perinatal & Postpartum

1 in 6 women experience significant depression and/or anxiety in relation to pregnancy and childbirth, or after the birth or adoption of a baby.

1 in 10 men experience depression and/or anxiety following the birth or adoption of a baby.

Unlike the “baby blues” which typically goes away after the first couple of weeks of having a baby, postpartum depression can last for months. Postpartum depression and anxiety can be a tremendously stressful time for a family. Onset of postpartum depression may be during pregnancy, shortly after the arrival of a new baby, or many months later. It is often characterized by:

  • Emotional instability
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anger
  • Guilt
  • Tearfulness
  • Worrying
  • Anxious and/or intrusive thoughts
  • Feelings of inadequacy
  • An inability to cope
  • Loss of pleasure in everyday things

The sooner you get treated for these symptoms, the sooner you’ll feel better, increase your attachment and enjoy your baby. It is important to know that you are not alone. Naushina is an experienced clinician and a trained counselor with the support model through the Pacific Post Partum Support Society, and will teach you tried and true skills and techniques to help alleviate some of your symptoms and move towards a healthier, happier lifestyle.

Naushina will also provide you with information and resources to help you understand what is going on with you and your baby to help you make healthy and reconstructive choices.
