Perinatal & Postpartum

1 in 6 women experience significant depression and/or anxiety in relation to pregnancy and childbirth, or after the birth or adoption of a baby.

1 in 10 men experience depression and/or anxiety following the birth or adoption of a baby.

Unlike the “baby blues” which typically goes away after the first couple of weeks of having a baby, postpartum depression can last for months. Postpartum depression and anxiety can be a tremendously stressful time for a family. Onset of postpartum depression may be during pregnancy, shortly after the arrival of a new baby, or many months later. It is often characterized by:

  • Emotional instability
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anger
  • Guilt
  • Tearfulness
  • Worrying
  • Anxious and/or intrusive thoughts
  • Feelings of inadequacy
  • An inability to cope
  • Loss of pleasure in everyday things

The sooner you get treated for these symptoms, the sooner you’ll feel better, increase your attachment and enjoy your baby. It is important to know that you are not alone. Naushina is an experienced clinician and a trained counselor with the support model through the Pacific Post Partum Support Society, and will teach you tried and true skills and techniques to help alleviate some of your symptoms and move towards a healthier, happier lifestyle.

Naushina will also provide you with information and resources to help you understand what is going on with you and your baby to help you make healthy and reconstructive choices.

Last year was a very rough year for me and my family. We've been into a terrible car accident in the month of September and we don't have anybody and know somebody to ask for help to settle our issues. I personally went through ups and downs of a lot of problems even the level of stress gets so high. Good thing we meet Naushina, such a wonderful person who help as a lot to build up our confidence and motivated us to achieve our goals. If your looking for a counselor to help you with personal matters or family probem, I personally recommend you to call Burnaby One Oak counselling.
My wife and I are extremely grateful to the compassion and support Naushina offered us. She is truly talented at her craft and we would highly recommend her to anyone struggling with relationship issues in their life as well as the other parts of our life that are impacted due to this.
One Oak has been wonderful for my children and I. We see her on a regular basis for issues surrounding childhood anxiety and depression. Her compassion and caring make the kids feel at ease and able to talk with her. She has been a huge support for me in trying to help all of my children through their issues.
Through compassion and skill, Naushina helped motivate me to be my authentic self. I was living my life, knowing that something didn’t feel right, knowing that I needed to do something different...I just didn’t know what. I felt lost and confused and tried so many things before I decided to start some individual counselling for myself. I traveled, joined Zumba, did some yoga and went on beautiful hikes to feel closer to nature, but it wasn’t until I took the time to put in that final piece, working with a compassionate and skilled therapist, that I was able to truly turn my life around. I encourage anyone feeling this way to take the time, and invest this time in yourself.
Naushina was incredibly helpful to me after I developed an anxiety/panic disorder and depressive feelings, following a traumatic life event. She not only served as a great support system during our visits, but also gave me the tools I needed to better manage my situation on my own. Thanks to her guidance, I am better able to diffuse difficult situations and prevent them from escalating. Although our work together is not yet complete, I feel much better equipped to handle any challenges that may arise and therefore, highly recommend her to anyone in need of such assistance.
My son’s anxiety became so much more manageable. My 7 year old went from having difficulty going to school and sleeping through the night, to being able to function and manage his days. My son felt comfortable working with Naushina, who helped him understand what his anxiety felt like in his body and how he could cope throughout the day. I also learned how to better support him through these feelings. Thanks to Naushina, I feel like I have my son back.
I was able to move forward from a broken heart. My husband’s betrayal left me feeling like I could never be happy again, as though something was broken that could never be fixed. Through individual sessions and couples sessions, I was able to put myself back in the picture. Even though I didn’t think it was possible, my husband and I were able to move past this and heal our marriage. I didn’t think it was possible for my husband to talk to someone and open up the way he did. Today, I feel like I am stronger than ever.
I was able to reduce my worry and enjoy each day. Through individual counselling with Naushina I was able to explore how much my negative self-talk was impacting my day to day life. Naushina challenged my thinking and helped me shift my thinking to serve me better. I now feel more confident and relaxed.
